This site is dedicated
to the memory of a unique
Tubiferous serpulid worm,
discovered in Eilat in 1979
and described by Dr. N.
Ben-Eliahu as a new genus
and new species, named
Filogranella elatensis
It lives in tube calcareous
tubes 2-3 mm across,
glued to each other to
form reef-like dense
colonies, growing up to
1.5 m height.
The white-cream tubes,
and the crimson-red
tentacles render this worm
to be most beautiful.
The typical site suffered
extreme pollution and
the entire colony perished.
Fortunately, it can still be
found in other parts of
the Red Sea.
