מוגדרת Family Faviidae מקודם השתייך למשפחת אלמוגניים Genus Leptastrea מקודם נקרא הסוג דקיקן שם עברי חדש שטיחן דף צהוב - זיהוי לא בטוח. הסוג דקיקן נבדל מקודמיו בגודל קטן יותר של פוליפים ובהעדר בליטות אנכיות על המחיצות הפנימיות. גם כאן יש הבדלים ניכרים בצורות השלד וצבעי האלמוג החי . Leptastrea differs
from Favia by its narrow
common walls between neighboring corallites. Still it belongs to the family Faviidae. They differ by size, by polyp shape -
angular or rounded and porminent hillocks. The colony polyps
divide asexually in intra-tentacular division meaning that each polyp
corralite elongates, and divided into two daughter polyps within the
tentacle circle. The species differ in size, shape
and sculpture of the corallite walls and inner dividing septa, presence
or absence of "palial lobes". 7-8 species in the Gulf. Identification can be
done using the attached Key adapted from JEN Veron's book "Corals of
the World" (2000)
