אלמוגי-שיח נקראת על שם סוג זה, שלו במפרץ אילת
לפחות 15 מינים .ההבדלים בין המינים הם גם בצורה ובארגון גביעי הפוליפים על ענפי
המושבה,
וגם בצורה הכללית של
המושבה. הטקסונומיה של הקבוצה נעשתה על פי הספר ואתר אינטרנט
"אלמוגי האבן של כל העולם" שבהפעלתו וסמכותו של פרופ' צ'רלי ורון. המפתח

. The largest family of stony corals
Acroporidae is named after
this Genus, represented in the Gulf of Eilat/Aqaba by least 15
species. Differences
between the spicies are in general colony shape form
and shape and organization of the polyps (corallites) on the
branches of the colony.
Identification of the species was based on the keys and
description in the book "Corals of the
World" and the website
Corals of the World online, with the authorship of Professor Charlie Veron. The Key
